Freename Secures $6.5M Series A to Advance Web3 Domains & Digital Identity

Zurich-based Freename, a leading Web3 domain registrar, has raised $6.5 million in a Series A round co-led by Entrée Capital and Polymorphic Capital, with participation from Sparkle Ventures, Blockchain Founders Fund, and Golden Record Ventures. Angel investors include Mike Lobanov (Target Global), Hany Rashwan (21Co), and Aaron Schnarch (ex-Coinbase Custody).

Freename is building the infrastructure to bridge traditional DNS with Web3 naming systems, enabling domains to function as wallet addresses, smart contracts, and on-chain digital identities. Its proprietary DNS technology supports interoperability across major blockchains like Polygon, Solana, Base, and BNB Chain while remaining accessible through browsers such as Chrome and Safari.

The company also offers custom TLD creation and monetization, along with innovations like a collision management system and a resolution protocol licensed to DNS providers—ensuring seamless Web2-Web3 integration. Recently, businesses such as Omweb.com have secured their own top-level domains, including .omweb, showcasing how enterprises are leveraging Freename to build branded Web3 identities.

“In Web3, domains are no longer static; they become dynamic, programmable identities,” said CEO Davide Vicini. “Freename is laying the foundation for a unified internet where owning a domain means owning your digital identity.”

With a $141 billion addressable market, Freename has already launched the first on-chain DNS readable by traditional browsers and became the first Web3 registrar to secure an ICANN license, giving it the ability to also sell traditional domains. This new funding will accelerate global expansion and product development as Freename positions itself at the forefront of digital identity in the decentralized era.
