Trademarkia has dropped Dharmesh Shah’s company, OnStartups LLC, from a trademark lawsuit after the Trademark.ai domain — central to the dispute — was apparently transferred to Trademarkia.
Background
Trademarkia, which operates Trademarkia.com, filed a trademark infringement lawsuit last month against Atom, the domain marketplace behind the Trademark.io platform. The suit alleged that Atom also acquired Trademark.ai, which Trademarkia claimed infringed on its brand.
Initially, HubSpot co-founder Dharmesh Shah was not named in the filing. However, after Domain Name Wireidentified Shah as the apparent owner of Trademark.ai, Trademarkia updated its complaint to include his company, OnStartups LLC.
Shah had acquired the .ai domain through Atom and used it for an AI-powered trademark data site that drew information from Atom’s own trademark platform.
Resolution for Shah
While no official settlement has been disclosed, the domain Trademark.ai now redirects to Trademarkia.com, suggesting a transfer of ownership to resolve the issue. Following that transfer, Trademarkia dismissed its claims against OnStartups LLC.
Case Continues Against Atom
Trademarkia’s legal action, however, is still active against Atom and several John Doe defendants, indicating that the broader dispute over Atom’s use of trademark-related branding remains unresolved.
OMWEB Insight:
The case highlights growing tension in the AI and domain branding space, where descriptive or generic words like “trademark” are being integrated into new platforms — sometimes brushing up against existing trademarks. The transfer of Trademark.ai may signal a quiet resolution for Shah, but the battle over Trademark.io and Atom’s role is far from over.
